Easiest Pillowcase Ever!

8:00 AM

Today I'm going to show you how to sew the easiest pillowcase ever. It is so simple and turns out looking so professional. This method is known as the "Hot Dog" method. You'll get the analogy in a bit.

The fabric that you'll need is 1/3 yard of fabric for the border and 3/4 yard of fabric for the body of the pillowcase.

Cut the border so that it measures 10 1/2 inches by 40 1/2 inches. Cutting the fabric is the most time-consuming part of the process. At least, for me it is. Once you're past this step, it's quick and easy to sew everything together.

Cut the body so that it measures 26 1/2 inches by 40 1/2 inches. Now, place the border fabric right side up on the surface in front of you. On top of that, place the body fabric right side down. Line up the long edge.

Now, start to roll up the body fabric until you can see the border fabric peeking out a few inches.

Take the border fabric that's peeking out and bring it up and over the rolled body fabric. Pin all three layers together.

Now do you understand the analogy?

Sew together the three layers of fabric that you pinned together.

This is my favorite part. Pull out the "hot dog" while rolling back the "bun". It should start to look like a pillowcase at this point. All that's left to do is fold the right sides together and sew seams along the side and bottom.

I also add a zig-zag stitch to keep the fabric from fraying.

Turn the pillowcase inside-out (my second favorite part) and you have your beautiful, handmade pillowcase. Easy, right?
